Stegasaurus Applique Pattern

As promised, here is the first applique pattern for the dinosaur afghan below. I am not posting the square, because it is nearly the same as the pteradactyl one; the only difference is that since this has a base circle of 16, instead of 2 dc in every stitch around the circle’s edge, it’s alternating 1 and 2 dc in each stitch.

Although I really enjoy making up new patterns, I don’t enjoy writing them down much at all, and so have very little experience doing so. Please forgive any mistakes there may be in the pattern.

I used Caron Simply Soft yarn, and a size G hook.

ch 4, join with sl st to first st.

Rd 1: Ch 2, 15 dc in ring (first ch 2 counts as 1 dc.), join to first ch 2

Rd 2 (Head): ch 6, sl st in 6th ch. ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook. hdc in next 2 st, then dc in next 6 st, including the sl st. Join to circle with a sl st 2 skipping 1 st on the center circle.

Legs: *sl st in next st, ch 5, dc in 3rd ch from hook and each of the next 2 ch. Join with a sl st, skipping 1 st on circle*(1st leg). Sl st into next st on circle, then repeat from *(2nd leg).

Tail and Spines: Ch 13 st, sl st into 6th chain from hook. (Ch 3, sk 1 ch, sl st into next ch) 3 times. Join with a sl st to center circle. Ch 3, join with a sl st in next st; ch 4, join with a sl st to next st, sl st into next st; ch 5 sk 1 st, join with a sl st to next st; ch 4, join with a sl st to next st, sl st into next st; ch 3, join with a sl st to 2nd ch of neck.

If you’re making it into a square, remember to keep a long tail of yarn so you can sew it to the square later, otherwise fasten off and tuck in the extra yarn tails.

the finished dinosaur, with long yarn tail.
